Louisiana is endowed with a lot in terms of natural beauty. Irrespective of where you drive, you have a slice of the state's natural and historical beauty. But not all roadways offer the same experiences.

If you are traveling to Louisiana for a vacation, knowing the roadways with the most to offer can help ensure you have the time of your life. This guide highlights some roadways in Louisiana you may want to have on your list when visiting.

4 Most Most Breathtaking Drives in Louisiana

  1. Creole Nature Trail
If you want a long drive, the Creole Nature Trail is a road you want to be on. The Creole Nature Trail is a nationally renowned byway thanks to the scenic views along the 180-mile all-American road. The road traverses the state's marshy swamp lands and the heart of Louisiana farmlands.

It would be best to take some detours and stopovers to get the most out of your experience on this road. Some detours you may consider taking are a walk through the downtown streets of its small towns, letting you experience the beautiful Victorian architecture and Sabine National Wildlife Refuge.
  2. The Longleaf Trail
If you want a break from bayous, the Long Leaf Byway Trail is the route you want to take. This trail is 23 miles long but has a refreshing diversity of landscape and wildlife. The trail treats visitors to changing sceneries that shift from rocky bluffs to green pastures and steep inclines as it passes through Kisatchie National Forest.

While on this road, consider stopping at Kisatchie Bayou Recreation Area to explore its water park by riding a canoe on its calm waters. If you love adrenaline-packed activities, you can go kayaking, making it an ideal water park, irrespective of your liking.
  3. Cane River National Heritage Trail
If you are into American history, combining scenic views with a bit of history can be hitting two birds with one stone. There is no better place to achieve this than driving through the Cane River National Heritage Trail.

This byway extends 35 miles from the historic town of Natchitoches, located in central Louisiana, and goes past the Oakland Plantations. For the history lover, the old town of Natchitoches has a lot to offer in the history of Louisiana and America.

This town is the oldest in the state and celebrated its 300 birthday in 2014. A walk through its downtown front street lets you enjoy its unmatched southern charm, making it among America's most desired historical town destinations. You also enjoy miles of graceful plantations, with some of the plantations offering tours in their big houses.
  4. The Louisiana Great River Road
The Mississippi river has always been a huge tourist attraction due to its magnificence and connection with American history. If you are set for an overly long drive along the river, the Louisiana Great River Road should be on your list because the road is over 770 miles long.

This road will have history lovers enjoying the most as it cuts through towns and cities with histories that changed America's political and economic landscapes. Travelers on this road can see traces of the Grant's Canal which dates back to the civil war.

Other historical places to make stopovers along the way include the Poverty Point World Heritage Site, where Huey Long, the 1930 Louisiana politician, was assassinated, the great river road museum, and the National World War 2 museum.

Auto Insurance Requirements for Louisiana

Louisiana has a fault-based approach to car insurance. That means the driver responsible for an accident is often liable for damages suffered by other parties.

If you are traveling for a short time in Louisiana, you can drive on Louisiana's roadways with your state's insurance coverage. However, it is best to have Louisiana coverage to ensure you are adequately protected.

Louisiana has some of the highest insurance rates in the country. But you can get car insurers with unmatched perks in Louisiana by leveraging online insurance comparison resources that do the hard work of eliminating unreliable providers to leave you with a list of the best while considering the cost.
