Retirement is often hard and emotional. According To Harvard Medical School, "During that stage of having a lot of structure to almost no structure, men can show the same signs as someone who is overworked." But after giving years of the golden youth to your job, you ought to have a happy retirement life. As it happens in the most vulnerable stage in your life, you should plan how you want to spend it. Here are a few tips that can help you to make this the best time in your life!

Having A Sense Of Purpose

A meaningful life can lessen the grinding effects of aging. According to Gallup-health Wellbeing Index, a sense of purpose plays a significant role in your wellbeing. Finding the meaning of life can vary from person to person, so some self-reflection is needed here. Some want to volunteer in community work and participate in society, and some want to give their family the main priority or help raise their grandchildren or to explore new places and new things. Whatever form it is, be proactive early in your retirement and find a sense of purpose.

Pay attention to finance

Finance is one of the biggest things to be concerned about in your retirement life though it's said that money can't buy happiness. Still, financial stability can make all the difference in feeling contentment and leading a relaxed life. As you won't have the same income as before after retirement, you better plan to save a portion of your salary or have an alternative source of income after retirement. The general rule of thumb is to save 15%of your annual income for your retirement.

Forbes suggests some tips for your savings:
  • Increase your saving contribution whenever you get a raise
  • Try to have a fully funded HSA (Health savings account), and if your employers offer High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP), grab it.
  • If You have a spouse who doesn't have access to an employer retirement plan, consider contributing to an IRA (individual Retirement Plan).
  • Have an insurance plan which suits your current financial condition and your preference.
  • Contribute a higher rate from the bonus or additional income.

Still, there may be some retirement conditions you don't know about and might sell yourself and your retirement lifestyle short. That's why it's always safe to seek help from a financial advisor. Find out if your goals are realistic and how you should spend your money after retirement.

Pay attention to your health

You can fully enjoy your life when you are healthy. Though some medical conditions are inevitable while you get old, you can always try to avoid serious diseases which result from unhealthy lifestyles. Technological advancement has made our lives more reliable on chemical and artificial supplements. But nature is still the best remedy. Try to avoid processed food and supplements. According to Naturazi, nature can help in remission of many diseases and improve health without any side effects.

Always stay conscious of your health by doing an annual full-body medical check-up. Staying active, eating healthy and regular exercise are the main points for staying healthy and enjoying your life.

Try to stay Serene

Your mental health is also vital alongside your physical health. Try to stay away from things that give you stress, cut off toxic relationships. Plan things so that you don't get caught up and stress yourself. Think yourself, young! A right mental attitude can reverse the adverse effects of aging. People are more likely to get depressed after retirement because of the sudden changes in the whole routine. Taking retirement too quickly can have adverse effects. You have to stay engaged with your family and friends, .mend the emotional bonds with your loved ones. As you have more time in retirement, doing too much or doing too little can lead to anxiety, depression, insomnia, memory impairment, appetite loss. The solution can be anything that means something to you personally, like volunteering once a week, taking up a class, or launching a new career. It's a plus if it's social work because research shows that social engagement is essential as both physical and mental health exercise. The important thing is to find an activity that draws you in and you out. Whether it's the family matter or social work, please don't take it too easy or too hard. A moderate amount of stress can light up our brain activity and improve focus, but too much of it is harmful.

However, despite your efforts to stay peaceful, if you have some psychological condition, be quick to get professional help.

Be curious about your surroundings and take care of your relationships

Your loved ones can be the source of support and peace if relationships with them are maintained with care. If you are married, try to enjoy your marital life in new ways. Mend, the bonds that were torn by your busy schedule.

Keeping a curious mind will help you to engage with others and learn a lot of new exciting matters about how the world works.

The Summary of all this is to be mindful of your resources (your time, asset, family & friends). Keep yourself busy with all the useful things, but make sure to enjoy yourself. Give time to the things vital for you, but make time to do the things you enjoy. Plan vacations and trips once in a while. Be flexible; if things don't go as planned, don't stress yourself too much. Try to adapt to the changes. Hoping these tips will help you to live a beautiful life after retirement.
